How Can You Register in the Bone Marrow Registry?
Almost one million people in the U.S. are living with a type of blood cancer, such as leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma.
In 2012, 140,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with one of these diseases.
There is a 1 in 10 chance for a Caucasian to find a bone marrow match, but only 1 in 20,000 chance for a South Asian.
Every 10 minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer. You can help change this statistic!
Leukemia or lymphoma can affect anyone, regardless of race, sex or age. The odds of surviving these diseases can be significantly improved by increasing the number of people registered with the National Marrow Donor Program and educating them enough to help them make the decision of donating if the chance arises. We are hoping that with the help of all of you and your friends, we can find a match for any patients in need.
What can YOU do to help save a life?
- JOIN the Be The Match registry
- Individuals between the age of 18 and 44 should go in-person to a drive near you (See the SAMAR Drive Calendar). You can implement your own drives in the U.S at your home or even at events.
- You can also get an individual KIT online. After filling out the online form, you will receive a package that will guide you to provide cheek swab samples collected from your mouth on a cotton swab. The process is simple and painless!
- Empower your friends and family to register (Share these Videos and HOW To GUIDES to help spread the word!)
- If you are fortunate to be told that you are a match, you can have the opportunity and honor of saving a life through a relatively painless process.
